The Bill will call for the next wave of Dormant Assets, consisting of unclaimed stocks, bonds and shares, to form a new national endowment called the Community Wealth Fund, to be invested for the purposes of improving the local environments and quality of life of deprived communities, including through building social capital and social infrastructure.
This motion follows numerous evidence sessions and research conducted by and for the APPG for ‘left behind’ neighbourhoods demonstrating the need for neighbourhood-level, long-term investment to improve the life chances of people living there and level up their communities.
It will follow a debate in the Commons on Monday 6 December on the Dormant Assets Bill itself which comes after strong support and a successful amendment to the Bill in the Lords to allow Community Wealth Funds to be piloted as part of the Dormant Assets scheme.
MPs are being asked to show support to the Bill on both Monday 6 and Wednesday 8 December.
